Pedagogy Pit-stop! Engaging students in collaborative learning through mobile devices

Socrative is a live polling tool instructors can use to capture live student data to assess students’ understanding of concepts. There are several ways to assess student knowledge within the application, including pre-set quizzes, on-demand questions, and exit ticket questions. Space Race is an additional feature that provides an opportunity for collaborative learning in a competitive game style quiz. Students can use any device including smart phones and tablets to participate. There is also a user friendly app that teachers or participants may use to join a session.

Here’s a quick video of Space Race in action.

Quick Facts to Get Started

  • One Teacher account is free and there is no cost to students.
  • Up to 50 students allowed to participate per session.
  • Students must download the app on their smart phone or tablet, launch it and enter your “Room” name in order to join the session.
  • Reporting tools provide details of student participation.
