What is the project Ascending?
In support of the Spelman College 2017-2022 Strategic Plan, Ascending is concentrated on operational excellence. the Ascending project has a strong focus on:
- Leverage the Cloud – Leverage the cloud as a cost-effective solution to improve the user experience with Banner and provide access to training
- Improve Infrastructure – Enhance security, reliability and availability of technology resources
- Visualize Innovative Processes – Streamline processes and workflows to improve user experiences with Banner
- Enhance Operational Excellence – Optimize business practices and strengthen customer service to “Deliver the Spelman Promise”
To achieve operational excellence, our partners Deloitte and Ellucian will conduct business process review sessions that will involve a wide range of faculty, staff and students on campus who will collaborate to provide details on how we currently conduct the business of Spelman College. They will use this valuable feedback to construct a list of recommendations for changes to improve processes across campus.
Ascending will also provide best practice demonstrations and detailed training on the use of Banner, which is the College’s enterprise resource and planning (ERP) system as well as the student information system (SIS) and is the heart of operations campus wide. Ascending will transform the supporting technology infrastructure as we transition the system to its hosted environment and ultimately upgrade the application to the current more user-friendly interface of Banner 9.
Change is coming and with it, training will be provided by our Ellucian partner to enable faculty and staff to use Banner more efficiently. In addition to the initial on-site training, the Ellucian On Demand Subscription Library is now available 24 hours daily, 7 days per week to all faculty and staff of the College. The training covers all aspects of Banner 8 and 9.
