Using Lecture Capture to Improve Student Learning

If you are looking for ways to improve student learning and provide students with more interaction with the content of your course, lecture capture may be an option for consideration. TechSmith’s Relay program is user friendly software capable of recording you and your cursor movements on your computer screen for you to create academic video that can transform learning in your classes.

Here are a few innovative ways you can incorporate a TechSmith Relay recording into your instruction to increase student learning out of class and improve engagement in class.

  1. Engagement: Record yourself explaining a difficult concept for the class. Post the video to a forum in Moodle for students to provide feedback and questions about the recording.
  2. Assessment: The above exercise can help you clear remaining misconceptions in class. You could then reassign the video with questions inserted during or at the end of the video to check for student’s understanding.
  3. Enrichment: Record yourself assigning challenges to students to record themselves completing an activity that tests a theory or concept learned in class (think ice bucket challenge).
